On Thursday, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah announced that Hezbollah would be able to destroy Israeli forces if they ever tried to invade Lebanon again.
“The resistance has many strong and decisive means. The time for a quick war is over. The resistance is capable of entering Galilee… That part of Israel that thinks about intervention in Lebanon will be destroyed and crushed,” said Nasrallah.
Brief History of Hezbollah
In 1982, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon began, which they call “Operation Peace for Galilee”. They had tens of thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks crossing the border between Israel and Lebanon, with their invasion’s objective being to push the Palestinian Liberation Organization back. When Israel captured much of Lebanon, Hezbollah was created to resist the occupation.
Ever since its founding, Hezbollah has been opposed to Israel, and continued to fight it and help its allies throughout the 2000’s, including during the 2006 Israeli war in Lebanon and the Syrian Civil War. Will a new war start between Israel and Hezbollah? Only time will tell.
